In Nick Brown’s recent work, mortality is sought out, feared, dreamt about, lamented, and memorialized. His use of media is a meditation on physicality and vulnerability, with raw canvas and thickly impastoed paint taking on qualities of skin, blood, flesh, and earth. In recent years he has spent a great deal of time engaged in solo camping excursions. His artwork investigates the psychological and emotional experience of these interactions of his body and mind with the natural world. Brown’s work has been shown at The Drawing Center, NY; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; The Chicago Cultural Center; and at numerous galleries, nationally and internationally.
